For Michelle, jewelry is more than a mere fashion statement. It is an experience, an affirmation and embodiment of one’s inner self. Believing in the five pillars of yoga: right exercise, breathing, thinking, nutrition, and relaxation, she looks to that inspiration in her jewelry designs. She chose Niyama, the eight paths of yoga, as the name of her yoga line.
I remember a sociology professor saying in college that “Man is a symbol-manipulating animal.” We communicate through the symbols of language, the world, and our hearts. Michelle so designed her logo. She began with the number 8 (niyama). Because meditation is important in realizing our inner selves, she symbolized that with extended arms from the 8, and enclosed the symbol within a circle to convey good fortune, eternity, and infinity.
Possessing a boundless creative energy, she extended this to include the serenity, purity, and contemplative intuition symbolized by silver. Enhancing that tranquil inner wisdom are sparkling diamonds, symbolic of love and strength in excellence and purification.
Every piece Michelle designs begins with these symbols’ energy, balance, and harmony. She feels it as she creates. We feel it when we wear them. Next week we’ll look at the meanings and qualities of the different stones she uses. Find out why wearing a piece of jewelry makes you feel good!
